Medical Compression Socks
20-30mmHg

Our Arteries carry oxygenated blood to our organs and tissues and veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart and lungs. Our legs require oxygenated blood and nutrients that are carried by our blood vessels, which is why proper blood circulation is important. The veins in our legs have one-way valves that help circulate blood up towards the heart. The valves over time can age and/or malfunction to cause venous re-flux causing stasis of blood in veins. When the blood has accumulated in the veins it can lead to the feet feeling heavier, swelling and increased pressure. This can lead to pain, edema, and inflammation.

Compression socks are designed to create significant pressure on the legs, ankles and feet to help prevent, provide relief and recover from a variety of mild to moderate venous disorders such as edema, varicose veins, spider veins, deep vein thrombosis and pain or discomfort.

The most common prescribed level of compression, 20-30mmHg, is tightest around the ankles and gradually lessens towards the knees and thighs. The compression of the veins, arteries and muscles force blood to circulate and causes blood to return to the heart and less blood to accumulate in the feet.

They are also ideal for those who spend long periods of time on their feet, travel for long distances by train, car or plane, if you are pregnant, or an athlete. If you experience swelling in your feet due to the nature of your job, wearing compression socks may also help protect your feet from feeling tired and achy, alleviate leg pain and reduce swelling.
