What is Chiropody?

Chiropody is a branch of health care that involves a primary care professional who specializes in the assessment, management and prevention of dysfunctions, disorders and diseases of the foot.

The foot is a complex structure and when something affects this lower part of the body, it can affect the rest of the body as well. Chiropody can help a person with foot problems, which in turn can help with their quality of life. If foot pain affects a person’s ability to walk or run, it can be quite debilitating both physically and mentally.

Chiropody involves the management of acute and chronic conditions affecting the foot. These conditions can include diabetes, sports and chronic injuries, biomechanical anomalies, ulcers and difficulty walking.

A referral is not required to consult a Chiropodist, which is also covered under most extended health plans. Chiropodists often work closely with other allied health professionals and may stay in constant contact with your medical team.

Chiropodists can practice both conservative and more invasive treatment options from regular callus and nail care, to chronic conditions such as diabetic ulcers, and surgical techniques such as soft tissue surgery.

Our team of chiropodists practice the full scope of chiropody including foot mobilization therapy and ingrown nail surgery. If you or someone you know suffers from foot pain, please do not hesitate to reach out to us to book a consultation with one of our Chiropodists today.
